5 Ways to Solve – Your PC Did Not Start Correctly

Yesterday, I received an error message “Automatic Repair, Your PC did not start correctly, press “Restart” to restart your PC, which can sometimes fix the problem. You can also press “Advanced options” to try other options to repair your PC.” I was very depressed and I didn’t know what to do. Next, I googled this issue and consulted some professionals, and then I found several ways to fix the “Your PC did not start correctly” issue.

Method 1: Uninstall New Software or Drivers

If you have installed new software or drivers, you are supposed to boot into Safe Mode and uninstall it to fix the automatic repair your PC did not start correctly error message.

  • Insert the Windows bootable drive to your PC and boot from it.
  • Select your language preferences, and click on Next.
  • Click on Repair your computer.
  • Select Troubleshoot.
  • Select Advanced options.
  • Select Startup Settings.
  • Click on Restart.
  • Press the F4 key to boot Windows into Safe Mode.

Method 2: Run Startup Repair

If Windows 10 still displays an Automatic Repair screen with a message “Your PC did not start correctly”, you can try running Startup Repair to resolve the issue.

  • Insert the Windows bootable installation disk and restart your PC from it.
  • Select your language preferences, and click on Next button to continue.
  • Click on Repair your computer on the bottom-left.
  • Select Troubleshoot under Choose an option.
  • On the Advanced options screen, click on Automatic Repair or Startup Repair.
  • After that, restart your PC.

Method 3: Run System File Checker

You can boot Windows from the same Windows media you used to install Windows, go to Command Prompt to run the chkdsk utility to scan your hard disk for issues, and attempt to fix the automatic repair your PC did not start correctly error message in Windows 10/8/7.

The steps are:

  • Insert the Windows bootable drive and boot from it.
  • Select your language preferences, and click Next.
  • Press Shift + F10 to open command
  • Type sfc /scan now and hit Enter to run the System File Checker.

Method 4: Rebuild BCD

Method 5: Windows Reinstall

If you still receive the “Automatic Repair, your PC did not start correctly” error after trying the above solutions, you can try reinstalling operating system by using the following steps.

  • Choose Troubleshoot.
  • Click on Advanced options.
  • Click on System Restore.
  • Choose a target operating system to restore.
  • Select a system image backup. The latest available system image is checked by default. However, if you don’t like it, you can select a system image by yourself and then click Next.
  • Click Next to continue. Don’t check Format and repartition disks option because this will delete everything on your computer hard disk and repartition your hard disk.
  • Click Yes when you see a warning message saying “All data on the drives to be restored will be replaced with the data in the system image. Are you sure you want to continue?
  • Then, the restoring process will take some time to restore all system and user files.
